How to Soundproof a Garage Door

There are a lot of reasons why you should soundproof a garage door. One of the noticeable benefits is reducing the noise in your garage.

Whether you want to sound dampen a garage door for temperature control or noise reduction in your garage, this article is for you.

Soundproofing material and tools required:

As expected sound-insulating, your garage door will require some materials and tools.  If you already have some of the necessary materials you can skip to the step by step tutorial.

1. Garage Door Insulation Kit

There are many best garage door soundproof kits, also there are really bad ones so be careful when choosing one.

I personally recommend the Matador Garage Door Insulation kit( Click here to see the current price on Amazon) It is one of the best(if not the best) In the market.

What I really like about Matador Garage Door Insulation Kit is

  1.  Very Affordable
  2. Unlike most insulation kits Meta door only adds less than 10lbs of weight which is really light(no need to adjust the garage door spring
  3. High quality no wonder why it has so many positive reviews.

2. Additional Insulating Tools

  • Measure Tape
  • Any Kind of Sharp Razor or Knife
  • A Pencil

3. Safety Equipment for soundproofing and insulating a garage door.

For safety equipment, you don’t need a lot of things you only need the essentials which are:

  • Safety Glasses.
  • Gloves.

Step by step Tutorial:

Step 1picture showing a soundproofed garage door: Measure the Garage Door.

Take a Tape measure and start measuring the length of the vertical garage door rails.

This is an important step so I recommend you take your time when you measure the vertical distance from the left to the right.

Step 2: Cut the Insulation Board.

after measuring the vertical length of your garage door. It is time to cut the soundproofing insulation board, to do this:

  • Take a pencil and mark the required length
  • Then use a razor or a sharp knife to cut the board into the right length.

Note: it is important to cut the insulation board accurately so I recommend, you take your time in this step, This will drastically save you time and money since there will be no size issues.

Step 3: Insert the board

After carefully cutting the insulating board, it is time to place the cut board into the top edge of the garage door with the laminate side facing outwards.
