I am sure you are like me and you would prefer a quiet and peaceful vehicle more than anything. whether you enjoy playing nice music or you just prefer a peaceful ride.
Sadly, that peaceful calm ride can be ruined by unwanted external and internal noise from the car engine, door, exhaust or even general road noise.
Fortunately, the problem is not really hard to solve with sound deadening mats and I will be comparing the two well-known vehicle sound deadeners which are Dynamat and Hushmat to find out which one is worth your time and money.
1. Dynamat Thick Self-adhesive Sound Deadener
Dynamat is one of the most popular and most used sound deadening mat of all time. It is a trusted brand and used all around the world. With only Dynamat you can drastically reduce road and vehicle noise. giving you the peacefulness you deserve.
It is well engineered and designed to absorb unwanted noise. If you are looking for an efficient sound deadening mat then Dynamat might be the product you’ve been looking for.
I am certain that with Dynamat you will get noticeable results even if your vehicle is not fully soundproofed, but it is recommended that you cover at least 30% of your car for even better results.
What makes Dynamat so popular is the fact that using it on your vehicle can reduce noise by 9-19dB, which technically is at least more than half noise your car currently makes.
Dynamat is durable and self-adhesive which saves you a lot of money especially if you are on a tight budget
One thing that I truly think is a set back with Dynamat is the installation process involved. Dynamat is not difficult but also not easy to install due to the thickness of the mat trickier to cut through.
Due to its installation process, You might be required to hire a professional person to help you soundproof your car and that is not budget friendly.
If you believe you a handy person like me(Just kidding) I have included a video to help you with the installation process.
How to install Dynamat.
Where Can You Use Dynamat?
What makes Dynamat so popular is its vast number of functions and you can use it for any noise issues you might be having including:
- Internal and External Noise in the car
- vehicle Vibrations
- Sound dampening your home appliances
- Soundproofing your gadgets including a noise Pc
- Car hood liner
- Home Gym Equipment
- Home Theater
Dynamat is great but unfortunately, not everyone can afford the cost it is associated with. Luckily, there is a more cost-effective alternative to Dynamat if you can’t afford it.]
How much does it cost to use Dynamat?
Due to Dynamat being more effective and popular, one of the downside to people on a tight budget is the cost of using it. Without a Doubt Dynamat is great and I highly recommend it if you will be soundproofing a small area of your car.
To use Dynamat expect to spend around 5-$6 per square foot.
- Works like Magic
- Extremely Thick
- Incredibly Effective
- Does not have any weird Odor (Odorless)
- Heat Resistant
- Aluminum Coated
- Extra Kit Is Required
- Slightly more expensive than other sound deadening mats
- Harder to Cut The mat
Hushmat Sound deadener
Most car soundproofing mats are a bit hard to understand let alone installing them because they generally don’t come with a beginner friendly kit which makes it hard for beginners.
Hushmat is an Exception to this when you purchase it, it includes a well-designed kit which makes it way easier to install it. The package includes a strong roller, Knife, control decal and the mats.
Hushmat is almost identical to Dynamat in terms of functionality, and sound deadening, It is also self-adhesive which it saves you money of buying adhesive.
Unlike Dynamat, Hushmat is a cheaper and anyone can afford to purchase Hushmat and soundproof their vehicle.
however, I should mention that Hushmat is also thinner compared to Dynamat, But that shouldn’t concern you because it will still do what is intended to do which is to reduce noise so you can have a peaceful ride.
The material used in Hushmat is quality and is designed to withstand a certain amount of heat.
Hushmat will certainly reduce unwanted noise but compared to Dynamat which is known to be the best sound deadening mat, it comes a little bit short.
overall I think Hushmat is a great product and will do its job. It would be really hard to criticize this product but what I can say is it comes second best right after Dynamat, But it is certainly a good bang for your buck.
If you are looking for a cheaper alternative to Dynamat, I recommend Hushmat.
Due to Hushmat being thinner, It is quite easier to install and remove it which is a huge time saver and an advantage especially if you are planning to remove it in the future.
Although It is easier to remove the mat, a small disadvantage is the mat might fall off if the road is really rough and full of potholes (Very unlikely).
Where can you use Hushmat
Unlike Dynamat, Hushmat is a bit limited in terms of where it can be used. It can be used in the following areas:
- Any type of Truck
- Boats and ships
- Moto Homes
How much does it cost to use Hushmat
If you are looking for an affordable alternative to Dynamat, Hushmat is the go-to product because when I did the calculations, it comes out to cost only around $2-$3 per square foot. which is 40-50% cheaper than Dynamat.
But the variable’s I used to calculate the cost is only for automotive installation, If you are looking to soundproof a door or a floor, it will cost around 3.5-$4 per square foot.
- Great for beginners
- Simple installation Process
- Great Durability
- Exceptional Performance
- Better sound dampening
- Can be applied in fewer areas
- Can Fall of Easier
Dynamat Vs Hushmat: Which One should you choose
To be fair, both product brands are high incredible and makes it harder to choose the winner, So I decided to break it down based on various factors and features.
When you compare the price range of Dynamat and Hushmat, it gives us a clear Idea that Dynamat belongs to a premium class and is slightly more expensive than Hushmat. So without a Doubt, Hushmat wins this round.
This hard to decide but due to Dynamat being more Thicker which means more sound and noise reduction, Dynamat is a clear winner here.
Ease of Installation:
Dynamat is not a beginner friendly in terms of installation, you might need to hire someone if you don’t have the time or you simply not handy( which is absolutely fine) Whereas Hushmat is easier to install. So Hushmat wins this time.
Hushmat is limited to be used for sound deadening automotive and Dynamat can be used for a wide variety of problems including vibrations, and also you can use Dynamat for most things. Dynamat wins this around.
whether you opt for Dynamat or Hushmat, In my opinion, both are one of the best car sound dampening mats and whichever one you choose, It should do the right Job. I hope this sound deadener comparison article was helpful.
